About Us and our history

AUGUST 23 2025

Our Mission: We are a not for profit social club whose theme is N scale model railroading.

Due to being a retirement town and the members are getting older and fewer

NTRAK is no longer an option for us as more and more are turning to TTRAK

Part of  participation is sharing our accomplishments with the community, encouraging public rail crossing safety and railfanning safety along with respect for the railroad property we are observing.

Our History:

  • Tucson N-Trak, a name that reflects our general compliance with NTRAK Standards, In November 2001 Tucson NTRAK was formed
  • In 2003 Tucson NTRAK connected with DCC by Digitrax
  • In October 2011 we were granted occupancy privileges to 1,100 s.f. of vacant retail space (#55) in the Green Valley Village Shopping Center, Green Valley, AZ in September of 2023 we were informed to vacate after 10 years and we still take modules, as required, to create layouts at several annual shows and national shows when they come to Tucson.
  • As with the origin of most model train clubs, previous to this, several like-minded N-Scale enthusiasts got together in the early 1990s and ultimately established a formal club called Feather River N Gineer’s, which was later incorporated into Arizona & Southwest Model Railroad Society .We moved from a rental garage to a site on the Davis Montham AFB located here in Tucson.
  • ” Arizona & Southwest Model Railroad Society” was evicted from the Davis Monthan Air Force Base in 1999.  While at DMAFB, the layout was operated with DC blocks and walk-around throttles.
  • In November 2001 a new member with experience from the South Hampton Roads NTRAK club introduced the club to the NTRAK concept, which was adopted for all future club modules.
  • From 2002 until 2005, a member’s home was the site of the club’s layout, from which modules were set up at shows to include the national 2002 Great American Train Show.
  • From 2006 though 2013 Tucson NTRAK hosted an annual weekend event in Winslow Az called Winslow R R Days along with 2 or 3 clubs joining us each year.
  • From 2005 until 2011, modules were stored in a trailer from which show layouts were created.
  • In 2012, a new member from Philadelphia brought with him 40 NTRAK modules that greatly augmented the number of Green Valley club modules, so as to set up significant layouts at shows without having to remove all the modules from the Green Valley location.
  • From 2011 to present we have enjoyed the use of our space in Green Valley Village Shopping Center, welcoming up to 50 visitors a day during the Wednesday Farmer’s Market and special events.
  • We maintain and upgrade the modules in an effort to make the modules visually interesting and appealing, and to make set up and tear down more efficient. Track work is given constant attention to allow members and visitors trains to run more smoothly.
  • In addition to the Green Valley site, we present displays during events at the AMTRAK station, at the Vail Pride Day and at the Tucson Expo Center during the model train swap meets.
